A study of humpback whales off of the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts has led to a broader scope of understanding of both the whales and human beings.

While the original purpose of the research started out to find out habitat and feeding cycles of the humpback whales, it has now been broadened to include protection methods for the creatures and ourselves.

The humpback whale enjoys feeding grounds that are rich in the kind of fish they need. Unfortunately, some of the feeding grounds are close to the shores. Most of the injuries that effect humpback whales are cause by human commercial fishing, pleasure boats and shipping. The research that is being accomplished is leading to new possibilities that may allow both human occupants and the beautiful humpback whales to co-exist without injury or harm.
