6. Milk.
Drinking milk from conventionally raised cows could be a big mistake for your health. Commercial brands of milk are currently full of growth hormones and antibiotics. It is much better to get milk and other dairy which comes from cows that are organically-fed.

7. Grapes, Peaches, and Apricots.
These are all great summer foods, but unfortunately they are full of toxic chemicals too. Buying these organic will most definitely help keep your system pesticide-free.

8. Potatoes.

Unfortunately potatoes are full of pesticides as well, and a lot of them are genetically modified. Because of this, they can actually harm your immune system and decrease the size of your liver, brain, and heart! So, buying organic potatoes is the best thing you could do for yourself, because potatoes make all kinds of delicious dishes.

9. Celery.
Celery is also sprayed with all kinds of chemicals when it’s grown, so it’s best to buy organic. You might even be able to taste the difference.

10. Cucumbers.

Once again, the problem here is excessive pesticide use. Buy organic cucumbers and avoid the pesticide-laden cucumbers at your local grocery store.

The importance of eating organic has been stressed to us time and time again, yet few of us actually understand what the most important organic foods actually are. Here is a list of 10 of the most important foods to buy organic:

1. Baby Food.
We are talking about our most precious gift – our children. Young babies especially are very susceptible to pesticides, so the food you give to your baby should be organic only. The best brands of organic baby food are Tender Harvest, Earth’s Best, and Healthy Times. Even better, you could make your own baby food by making a puree from organic produce. It’s cheaper and healthier!

2. Red and Green Bell Peppers.

These are on our list of the most important organic foods, because they are great Vitamin C sources. However, if grown conventionally, they are drenched in pesticides, so you are getting more harm than good if they are not organic.

3. Bananas.
If not organic, bananas are subject to a lot of chemical dousing. This is because this tropical fruit has to travel a long way to get to your closest supermarket, and its window of ripeness is very short.

4. Rice.

This is also one of the most important foods to buy organic. There are a lot of pesticides in domestic rice, so if you can, you should buy organic rice and use an airtight container to store it.

5. Cherries.
Cherries are so delicious and good for so many dishes, but unfortunately full of pesticides. So, they are definitely one of the most important foods to buy organic.

The chemical industry for foods would have you believe all kinds of things so you would buy their products. That’s why they spread organic food myths, which are simply not true. Here are three of the biggest organic food lies in the industry:

1) Organics won’t help our environment
The first lie is that organic farming is just as bad for the environment as chemical-dependent industrial farming. The fact is though that ‘regular’ farming is extremely polluting to streams, rivers, wildlife, and topsoil, and it harms the environment a lot more than organic farming. In general, organic food farming relies on understanding nutrient cycling, crop diversity, and a variety of ecological processes that industrial farming just takes care of through chemical quick-fixes. So, it is one of the biggest organic food lies that organic farming does not help the environment in any way.

2) Organics have just as many pesticide residues
The second one of the organic food myths is that organic farming has the same amount of pesticide residue as industrial farming. But in reality, the produce that comes from organic farming – from strawberries to bananas to green and red peppers – has regularly demonstrated to have less pesticide residue (which is actually quite toxic) than non-organic produce. Research has been done to back this up, and every test that is ever conducted shows that organic produce has less toxicity and a lower concentration of pesticide residue. The fact that even a little pesticide residue was found was only due to the consequence of having used pesticides in the same fields in the past, which tend to remain in the soil, and has nothing to do with using pesticides in organic farming.

3) Organic food is more likely to give you E. coli
This is another one of the organic food myths that the chemical industry is propagating. But the fact is that all organic farms must have special certification, which actually protects from the contamination of E. coli. There are also strict regulations with regard to the use of compost and manure on organic farms. Certifiers of organic farms are also required to demonstrate that these farms comply with all regulations. The record keeping is detailed, especially when it comes to small farmers. Certifiers are expected to monitor everyone equally by the USDA. The USDA then checks these reports and sometimes even asks for more information. So, the notion that organic food could give you E. coli is almost bizarre, since there is so much inspection involved.

The world of organics has been around for many years. It has taken a few generations of humans to finally wake up to the detrimental effects of pesticides, insecticides and mass planting that doesn't offer renewable soil and land. The benefits of organic food are many, but are there any disadvantages of organic food?

To begin with, we need to understand that organic food is not just the lack of use of chemicals, but is a full approach to blending renewable resources and a green footprint in the land and every aspect of the farming processes. Those writers and so called professionals that do not take this side into consideration are simply misinformed and need to do more research before they make their claims. The other main thing to note is that to be truly organic the label Certified Organic must be included.

The current organic food market is still small when compared to the standard food market. It is, however, growing exponentially. The prices set for organic foods remain quite a bit higher and for those on a tight budget, the organic food product is simply not a consideration.

The typical organic crop yield is less per acre than non-organic foods. The disadvantages of organic food become apparent when dealing with the need to feed large portions of the populace. While world hunger might be a topic to be addressed at a beauty pageant, it's serious business. Combine the increased human population with the decreasing ability to feed them and add in a variety of devastating land and weather events. This is a recipe that may not allow the larger scope of organic food as an answer to address the problem.

There is less of a variety of organic food. This is also changing. Many of the nation's largest grocery store chains are adding organic foods as part of their overall approach to wellness. Natural specialists as well as nutritionists are being brought on board to offer larger varieties of fresh produce as well as prepackaged organic products.

Another one of the disadvantages of organic foods is that they have a short shelf life. We have become a nation of people filled with preservatives and used to products that last a long time. We have forgotten the concepts of our grandparents and great-grandparents that had their food fresh every day. Organic products offer a healthier alternative, but we have to make the choice of convenience vs. health.

The availability of organic foods in smaller communities used to be one of the major disadvantages. Even someone who avidly believed it was worth an extra ten minute drive to buy organic is faced with the price of gas it takes to get there. Due to the increased popularity and higher demand this should soon be removed as one of the disadvantages of organic food. From small corner stores to the largest big box chains, both fresh and prepackaged organic food is cropping up all over the shelves. Parents have healthier and safer alternative snacks for themselves and their children, with ease of accessibility.

In our nation's endeavor to pursue health the interest in organic products has reached new heights. From local farmer's markets to big box chains, the term organic has been branded on many consumable items. Conscious consumers are buying more organic products and produce than ever. However, shoppers need to be aware of what is truly considered organic produce and the best organic farming practices that are required.

Just because a product is labeled organic, does not mean that it complies with the Federal guidelines. In order for a packaged product to be accepted, it must pass the Federal approval process and is then labeled certified organic. There is a misconception that organic agriculture simply means the lack of use of pesticides. The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) is a Federal advisory board that has been established to working with the FDA on the definitions and legislation that is involved in establishing organic legislation. The best organic farming practices involve not only the lack of pesticides and insecticides, but is a full management system using established practices that maintain, restore and keep a balance of ecological harmony.

Ecological harmony is a very close runner in definition to sustainable agriculture. Organic farming involves the full picture of the reduction in soil erosion, the conscious effort of lowering fuel consumption during all phases of the farming process and lack of use of nitrates, pesticides and insecticides. The additional priority includes the promotion of an enhanced green footprint with all aspects of packaging, electrical use and recycling.

Organic farming in the United States reaches back as far as 1940 when J.I. Rodale published his magazine called Organic Farming and Gardening. Rodale promoted all aspects of the health of soil as well as no pesticide use. Environmentalists have used Rodale's concepts as the benchmark for the best organic farming practices.

The USDA developed the National Organic Standard in 2002. To receive the USDA Certified Organic stamp of approval, a farm muse comply with all of the guidelines established:

The concept of biodiversity includes a diverse group of processes to keep the land and soil healthy: Crop mixtures that promote beneficial organisms and aid in the management of pests as well as pollination. The planting of companion crops and crop rotation to nourish and replenish the soil nutrients assists in the natural balance.

The second level of organic farming is called "Diversification and Integration of Enterprises". This includes the use of diversified resources and recycled methods to enhance the growing process. An example might be for an organic farmer to recycle unused portions of a crop back to farm animals and then use the manure to fertilize the fields.

Organic farmers must offer a level of sustainability. In other words, longevity of existence for the organization. The increased interests in organic food sources are adding a higher profit margin for the organic farming community and offer a better level of sustainability.

The topic of natural plant nutrition delves much deeper into the realm of nature. This involves all aspects of soil and nature balance. From deep inside the soil to the natural organisms that promote good bacteria and pollination, the environment of the organic field must offer a rich and diverse existence. The use of natural pest management is high on the list and strides are being made to establish improved methods to guarantee the best quality organic produce.

The integrity of the farmer is also a high priority. This refers to the best management practices regarding record keeping and reporting, to assure that the consumer receives a truly organic product.

There are many advantages and perks of the portable greenhouse, and this is just one of the types of greenhouses which are available. Small greenhouse kits make building or setting up a portable greenhouse very simple, easy, and fast. One of the biggest advantages that a portable structure has over a greenhouse which is permanently placed is that a portable greenhouse can be moved to the ideal location whenever this is needed for optimal sun exposure. Small greenhouse kits allow you to start out with a size that is big enough to let you try out greenhouse gardening without being overly large or burdensome. These units cost less than large permanent ones, and they offer flexibility when it comes to where you can place them.

A portable greenhouse offers all the benefits of other types of greenhouses, only there are more of them. You will save space and money, your plants will always get the best possible light and humidity, and they can even be placed in your home if they are small enough. You can get a head start on planting your vegetable and flower seeds for transplanting outside when the weather gets warm, and a portable greenhouse is very easy to put up, take down, and does not require a large amount of room for storage. Another perk is that wildlife will no longer be a threat, and insects and weeds are much easier to control as well. A portable greenhouse offers many perks and few if any disadvantages, making them ideal for anyone.
